About Veran Finance
Veran Finance is an independent publication that explains retirement planning, taxes, health coverage, and everyday money management for freelancers, consultants, and other self-employed professionals in the United States.
Who's behind Veran Finance
I'm Manel Vadillo, and I work for myself. I run a small web design and development business from Andorra, so I know what it's like when there's no HR department, no employer match, and no one telling you how much to set aside for taxes or retirement. Every decision is yours — and so is every mistake.
I'm not a U.S. freelancer, and I'm not a CPA or a financial advisor. I started Veran Finance because when I looked into how self-employed Americans handle retirement accounts and taxes, I kept finding two kinds of information: official IRS pages that are accurate but hard to read, and articles that were outdated, vague, or quietly selling something.
This site is my attempt at something in between: plain-English explanations built directly on primary sources.
Who this is for
If you don't get a W-2, don't have an employer-sponsored 401(k), and your income doesn't arrive in even paychecks, most mainstream personal-finance content wasn't written with you in mind. This site is.
How I work
- Every figure — contribution limits, deadlines, income thresholds — is checked against the IRS or another official source, and I link to it so you can check it too.
- Every article shows when it was published, and I update articles when the rules change.
- When the answer depends on your situation, I say so instead of guessing.
- If you spot an error, email me at contact@veranfinance.com and I'll fix it.
What this site isn't
Veran Finance is educational. It isn't personalized financial, tax or legal advice. For decisions about your own situation, talk to a qualified professional. See the Financial Disclaimer for details.
